In honor of National Bike Safety Month, the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) celebrated big changes that make it easier and safer for people to walk and bike around the county. SBCTA has completed several projects in Fontana, Montclair, Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino, Upland, and throughout the county to improve paths and access to transit. These efforts help people get around more easily while promoting active transportation options like walking and biking.
The celebration event took place on May 16 in Rancho Cucamonga, near the recently upgraded 6th Street Cycle Track. SBCTA Board Member John Dutrey (Montclair) emphasized the importance of these improvements, saying, “Celebrating these active transportation improvements is a perfect way to recognize National Bike Safety Month and SBCTA’s commitment to creating safe connections to transit throughout our county.”
These improvements are part of SBCTA’s larger mission to create safer and more accessible streets for pedestrians and cyclists. SBCTA worked closely with local cities to identify the areas where upgrades would have the biggest impact, ensuring that communities in need of better transportation options benefit directly.
The project was made possible through federal, state, and city funding. Construction began in the summer of 2024 and wrapped up in March 2025, marking a major achievement for SBCTA and its partners. With these improvements in place, local residents can enjoy safer, more reliable ways to move around, making biking and walking an even better choice for getting where they need to go.
