Rideshare & Vanpool

San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) is responsible for efforts throughout San Bernardino County to encourage commuters to rideshare by taking the bus, train, carpooling/vanpooling, telecommuting, biking or walking to work. Ridesharing assists the region with reducing traffic and single occupancy vehicle trips as well as improving air quality.

SBCTA in partnership with the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) operate the IE Commuter rideshare program, offering residents of San Bernardino County and Western Riverside County rideshare incentives and rewards and free rideshare program support to employers within San Bernardino County and Riverside County.

SBCTA and the Victor Valley Transit Authority (VVTA) implement Vanpool Subsidy Programs for San Bernardino County. SBCTA’s SB Loop vanpool program services vanpools travelling into the San Bernardino Valley, San Bernardino Mountains, Morongo Valley or Colorado River Basin. VVTA’s Vanpool program services vanpools travelling into the Victor Valley and North Desert portions of the county. Check out the vanpool section below for more details.

The SB Loop (the Loop) vanpool program is a service of SBCTA that offers commuters traveling to SBCTA’s Service Area, the San Bernardino Valley, San Bernardino Mountains, Morongo Valley or Colorado River Basin for work or post-secondary school. A viable alternative to driving alone that helps reduce traffic congestion and total vehicle miles traveled, contributing to improved commute times and better air quality. SBCTA received a federal grant to launch the Loop, an ongoing vanpool subsidy program that provides up to a $600 and $700 for zero-emission vanpools subsidy towards the cost of a vanpool.

To qualify for a new SB Loop vanpool:

  • Vanpool destination must be within the San Bernardino Valley, San Bernardino Mountains, Morongo Valley or Colorado River Basin;
  • Lease a five to fifteen passenger vanpool vehicle through an SBCTA approved leasing vendor (Commute with Enterprise);
  • Vanpool must have a minimum 70% occupancy at startup; and
