Transportation Planning

San Bernardino County is a large and diverse county, both geographically and demographically.  Over 2.1 million people live here, about 78 percent of whom reside in the San Bernardino Valley. Transportation planning in the county is distinctly multi-modal in nature. Although our residents and industries have the benefit of a world-class freeway network, SBCTA’s transportation vision is also one of giving our citizens choices in how they get to work, school, and other activities: by passenger rail, bus, carpool, vanpool, walk, or bike. SBCTA and our local and regional partners have set a course to build a robust rail and bus transit network, with first/last mile linkages, that connect some of the primary centers of activity within our county and beyond. The San Bernardino Countywide Transportation Plan (CTP) tells part of that story, supported by geographically-based transportation studies plus work on emerging technologies and travel choices.
