The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) recently welcomed Congressman David Rouzer for an engaging discussion on regional and national transportation priorities. His visit provided a valuable opportunity to highlight the role San Bernardino County plays in moving both people and goods, and to explore ways federal policy can strengthen these efforts.
SBCTA leaders shared how the county’s position as the “Gateway to America,” directly linked to the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, makes it a vital connection point for freight movement nationwide. At the same time, the agency works every day to provide safe and reliable mobility options for local commuters. These combined responsibilities require a transportation system that is well-supported, flexible, and responsive to both community and national needs.
The conversation also focused on the upcoming federal transportation budget reauthorization. SBCTA emphasized the value of increasing formula-based funding, which offers greater predictability for long-term planning, and of recognizing “Self-Help Counties” that invest local tax dollars into transportation solutions. Additional discussion explored ways to ensure federal funding formulas, such as CMAQ and STBG, reflect the scale and significance of a region’s contributions.
Congressman Rouzer’s visit reinforced the importance of continued partnership between local and federal leaders in delivering sustainable, efficient, and future-ready transportation systems. SBCTA looks forward to building on these discussions and working together to keep people and goods moving safely and efficiently across San Bernardino County and beyond.
