The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) Board of Directors received a comprehensive presentation from FM3, detailing the findings of the latest voter survey conducted in November 2025. This survey focused on Measure I, a critical half-cent sales tax in San Bernardino County that is specifically dedicated to enhancing transportation infrastructure and services within the region. First approved by voters in 1989, Measure I has played a pivotal role in the county’s transportation landscape, and it was successfully extended in 2004 to continue funding essential projects.
Under the administration of SBCTA, Measure I operates under a unique “return-to-source” policy. This ensures that the funds generated by the sales tax are reinvested locally, allowing each region to benefit directly from the revenue it produces. This approach not only fosters local investment but also supports the development of transportation projects that are tailored to the specific needs of communities throughout San Bernardino County.
The SBCTA Board has guided staff through the development of an expenditure plan for future transportation needs of the county. In addition, they have tasked staff to seek the approval of the expenditure plan with the jurisdictions that make up our county. If approved, the Board can determine if they want to request the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors to place a measure on the November ballot to extend the Measure I half-cent sales tax.
