Congressman Aguilar Brings Needed Funding to Highland-Redlands Connector

April 7, 2026

Congressman Pete Aguilar (CA-33) visited San Bernardino County to present SBCTA with a $2 million federal appropriations check in support of the Highland–Redlands Connector Project. The funding, which the Congressman championed through this year’s appropriations process, will help advance a safer, more accessible pedestrian and bicycle connection between the two communities. The project is expected to be especially meaningful for students at Citrus Valley High School in Redlands, many of whom reside in Highland and currently lack an adequate active‑transportation route.

During the presentation, Congressman Aguilar highlighted the importance of continued collaboration at all levels of government, noting, “If SBCTA keeps delivering, I’ll keep helping.” SBCTA President Rick Denison also shared remarks emphasizing the regional benefits of the project and the value of sustained federal partnership in building infrastructure that strengthens mobility and community connectivity.

The investment marks an important milestone as SBCTA continues its work to expand safe, multimodal transportation options across the county. The Highland–Redlands Connector Project remains a key component of that vision, aimed at improving safety, reducing barriers, and supporting healthier, more accessible routes for residents and students alike.
