July 8, 2025

The SBCTA Board of Directors, staff, partner agencies and members of the public gathered for a special moment to honor the retirement of Executive Director Dr. Ray Wolfe. After years of dedicated leadership, the meeting marked Dr. Wolfe’s final official appearance before the Board and served as a fitting tribute to his transformational impact on transportation across the region.

Throughout his tenure, Dr. Wolfe played a key role in delivering landmark projects that improved mobility, access, and sustainability across San Bernardino County. Among the standout achievements celebrated were the successful completion of the I-10 Express Lanes, the launch of the Zero Emission Multiple Unit (ZEMU) passenger train—the first of its kind in the nation—and the widening of US 395 to support growing regional travel. Dr. Wolfe also stood out as a steadfast advocate for bringing critical funding and legislative attention to the county’s remote areas, ensuring that all communities had a voice in the future of infrastructure planning.

The meeting featured a series of heartfelt presentations from regional leaders and longtime collaborators, each offering words of gratitude and reflection. The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, SCAG Executive Director Kome Ajise, Ontario Council Member Alan Wapner, Rancho Cucamonga Mayor Dennis Michael, and WTS Inland Empire President Kelsey Moore all took the opportunity to honor Dr. Wolfe’s leadership and vision. Their remarks captured the admiration and appreciation felt throughout the transportation community for his tireless service.

As the room filled with applause and reflection, the Board and attendees celebrated not just the end of a chapter, but the lasting legacy Dr. Wolfe leaves behind. His work has laid the foundation for continued innovation and progress, and his leadership will remain a guiding influence for years to come.
