Express Lanes Continue East on Interstate 10

July 8, 2025

The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) is making progress on a major upgrade to the Interstate 10 (I-10) with the release of an Invitation for Bids (No. 25-1003269) for the next phase of construction. This step invites construction companies to compete for the opportunity to build new express lanes between Interstate 15 (I-15) in Ontario and Sierra Avenue. This section, known as Contract 2A, is part of the larger I-10 Corridor Express Lanes Program designed to reduce traffic and improve travel throughout the area.

The entire project includes building a single express lane in each direction from I-15 in Ontario to Pepper Avenue in Colton. To make construction more efficient, SBCTA has split the project into two parts: Contract 2A, which covers I-15 to Sierra Avenue, and Contract 2B, which will stretch from Sierra Avenue to Pepper Avenue. Caltrans has already given a conditional green light for the plans of Contract 2A, signaling that the project is on track.

By moving forward with this project, SBCTA aims to ease congestion, create safer and faster travel options, and make it easier for goods to move across the region. Local drivers and businesses can look forward to long-term improvements along one of Southern California’s busiest freeways.

The SBCTA Board is also expected to review and approve the contract award later in fall 2025.
