Since 2006, SBCTA has been helping stranded drivers with its Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) Program. The FSP uses special tow trucks to patrol busy freeways during peak traffic hours, helping people with car trouble. These trucks travel along areas called “Beats” and cover more than 98 miles of freeway. The program helps keep drivers safe, reduces traffic jams, and helps cut down on pollution.
In 2025 alone, FSP drivers helped more than 47,000 motorists in San Bernardino County. They performed all kinds of services like changing flat tires, jump-starting batteries, giving out gas, and checking on cars stopped on the side of the road. Sometimes, they even help drivers who accidentally lock their keys inside their car. Since the program began, more than 1 million drivers have received help from FSP.
The program received nearly 1,000 surveys this year from drivers who were helped, and 96% said their experience was excellent or good. At the May 6 SBCTA Board meeting, several FSP drivers were honored for their hard work in 2025. Those drivers recognized were:
SBCTA is proud to recognize these drivers for their professionalism, kindness, and dedication. Thanks to them, the FSP Program continues to make San Bernardino County’s freeways safer and more reliable for everyone.
