SBCTA Advances Transportation Improvements in Needles and Adelanto

October 16, 2026

The SBCTA Board of Directors recently approved funding agreements supporting transportation improvements in the Colorado River and Victor Valley subareas, advancing critical infrastructure projects that will enhance safety, mobility, and roadway conditions for residents and travelers in two of the county’s upper desert communities.

In Needles, the Board approved funding for the River Road and River Street Enhancement and Shoulder Repair Project. The improvements will reconstruct sections of roadway and repair shoulders to improve access, safety, and reliability along a corridor that serves local residents and visitors alike. The project will also enhance emergency vehicle access in the area, helping ensure first responders can safely and efficiently reach nearby neighborhoods and recreational destinations.

The Board also approved funding for the Air Expressway Rehabilitation Phase I Project in Adelanto. The project includes rehabilitation of approximately two miles of roadway between U.S. Highway 395 and Raccoon Avenue through new paving and roadway improvements. Air Expressway serves as an important transportation corridor in the Victor Valley, supporting local travel and regional connectivity.

Both projects are being delivered through SBCTA’s Measure I Major Local Highway Projects Program, which helps provide funding for significant transportation improvements throughout San Bernardino County. By partnering with local jurisdictions and leveraging state and federal resources, SBCTA continues to invest in projects that improve mobility, support economic activity, and enhance quality of life in communities throughout the region.
