The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) has awarded the construction contract for the next segment of the Interstate 10 Corridor Freight and Express Lane Project, an important step toward improving traffic flow and supporting goods movement along one of the region’s busiest freeways. The contract was awarded to Guy F. Atkinson Construction, LLC, the lowest responsible bidder, for an amount not to exceed $213.3 million.
The I-10 Corridor is a vital route for both commuters and freight, carrying thousands of vehicles each day through the heart of the Inland Empire. This next phase of construction will help reduce congestion, improve travel times, and support economic growth by modernizing key segments of the freeway. In addition to the main construction contract, the Board also approved an allowance for project contingency, supplemental work, and materials, which will be used as needed to keep the project moving forward efficiently.
A major portion of the project is funded through Measure I, the county’s voter-approved half-cent sales tax dedicated to transportation improvements. Measure I continues to play a crucial role in bringing large infrastructure projects to life by providing stable local funding that allows SBCTA to leverage state and federal dollars and deliver improvements that benefit residents, businesses, and the regional economy.
The project attracted strong interest from the construction industry, with five qualified bids submitted. After a thorough review, Atkinson’s bid was confirmed to meet all requirements and represent the best value to taxpayers.
With the contract now awarded, SBCTA will move forward with construction activities aimed at providing a safer, smoother, and more reliable I-10 for San Bernardino County travelers.
