The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) is partnering with the City of San Bernardino to begin early work on improving the SR 210/Del Rosa Avenue Interchange. The goal is to reduce traffic congestion, improve safety, and upgrade an interchange that no longer meets current travel demands.
Located between Waterman Avenue and East Highland Avenue, the Del Rosa Avenue Interchange often experiences delays due to tight spacing, limited ramp capacity, and older roadway design. Traffic is especially heavy during morning school hours.
To address these issues, the City of San Bernardino asked SBCTA to restart the project. Early plans include widening Del Rosa Avenue, improving both onramps, widening the westbound offramp, and adding turn lanes and intersection upgrades. These changes are expected to make driving through the area smoother and safer.
SBCTA will enter into an agreement with the city to begin project studies, environmental review, engineering, and right-of-way work. This phase is estimated to cost 4.6 million dollars, funded by both the City and Measure I, the voter-approved transportation sales tax.
SBCTA will release a Request for Proposals so engineering and environmental work can begin without delay. Completing this work will make the project “shovel-ready” and more competitive for future state and federal grants.
With approval from the Board, the project is added to SBCTA’s Interchange Phasing Program with a funding cap of up to 10 million dollars. SBCTA and its partner agencies will continue working to secure construction funding in the future.
