The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) is advancing the next phase of improvements along State Route 62 (SR 62) in the Town of Yucca Valley, a vital east–west corridor serving residents, visitors, and businesses in the Morongo Basin.
At its October 1st meeting, the SBCTA Board of Directors approved several key actions to support the SR 62 Sage Avenue to Airway Avenue Project, which aims to relieve congestion and enhance safety through one of Yucca Valley’s busiest commercial areas. The planned improvements cover approximately three-quarters of a mile along SR 62 and include adding outside channelization lanes in both directions and upgrading four existing intersections to improve traffic flow and accessibility.
Following a competitive proposal process involving four qualified firms, Wood Rodgers Inc. was awarded the professional services contract to perform engineering and environmental services for the PID and Project Approval/Environmental Document (PA/ED) phases. The firm was selected after a thorough evaluation and interview process conducted by staff from SBCTA, Caltrans, and the Town of Yucca Valley, where it was determined that Wood Rodgers presented the strongest technical understanding of the project and a comprehensive approach to delivering its scope of work.
Funding for the project is provided in part through Measure I, San Bernardino County’s half-cent sales tax dedicated to transportation improvements, specifically under the Morongo Basin Major Local Highway Program.
As work progresses, SBCTA will continue to collaborate closely with the Town of Yucca Valley, Caltrans, and community stakeholders to ensure the project delivers long-term mobility and safety benefits for drivers, businesses, and visitors traveling along this essential regional route.
