US 395 – Phase II Seeks Bids for Construction

July 8, 2025

The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) is moving forward with the next phase of improvements to U.S. Highway 395 following the Board’s approval to release Invitation for Bids No. 25-1003266. This important step allows construction firms to bid on the US 395 Phase 2 Widening Project, a key effort aimed at improving traffic flow, enhancing safety, and supporting goods movement along one of Southern California’s most vital transportation corridors. Construction can begin once final approvals are completed by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and federal authorization is granted.

US 395 is designated as a “Priority Interregional Highway” by Caltrans and serves as a major route for freight, agriculture, and travel throughout several inland counties. It provides a crucial link between the Central Valley and the rest of the state. Funding support has also been secured through the Trade Corridor Enhancement Program, ensuring the project is financially supported and ready for the next steps.

Now that the SBCTA Board has authorized the release of the bid invitation, the next milestone will be awarding the construction contract. That decision is expected to be returned to the Board for final consideration in the fall. Once complete, the widened US 395 will ease congestion, improve safety for drivers, and strengthen the flow of goods and services across the region.
