Brightline West Receives $3 Billion in Federal Funding

December 11, 2023

Brightline West’s High-Speed Rail Project received some good news to end the year as it announced a major investment from the federal government.

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, that the Brightline West project will be receiving a $3 billion grant funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The high-speed rail project will take passengers between the Rancho Cucamonga Metrolink station and Las Vegas, with stops in Hesperia and Apple Valley.

SBCTA has been an instrumental partner in supporting Brightline in getting to this point and making the connection from the High Desert and Rancho Cucamonga.

The $3 billion represents approximately one-quarter of the project’s anticipated $12 billion budget cost. About 16 million people drive from Las Vegas toward Southern California on Interstate 15 every year. The connection from Las Vegas to Rancho Cucamonga will relieve traffic along the I-15, help cut vehicle emissions, and potentially eliminate 3 million car trips annually.

SBCTA congratulates Brightline West on this exciting news and thanks our federal representatives for helping secure these critical resources.
