ECNS Public Outreach

CONFIRE and the San Bernardino Council of Governments (SBCOG) are collaborating with jurisdictions throughout San Bernardino County to educate the public about the Emergency Nurse Communication System (ECNS) program.

ECNS is an innovative program that was implemented in 2019 where dispatch operators work alongside trained Registered Nurses stationed in the County’s 9-1-1 call center network to quickly assess the level of response required for medical calls.

In June 2021, the Board of Directors directed staff to lead an outreach effort for the ECNS program that includes a marketing strategy, branding, and creation of a public information toolkit. This collateral will be shared with all local agencies countywide and each jurisdiction will be provided a “how to” implementation booklet that provides options for outreach that makes sense for each jurisdiction. The program is branded and each agency will be able to customize messaging to ensure local agency audiences are effectively reached.

In addition to this outreach coordination effort, the project team has been presenting this program to various audiences including city and town councils, County Vision Teams, chambers of commerce, and hospital associations.
