SBCTA recently welcomed about 30 children to Bring Your Child to Work Day, filling the office with excitement and curiosity as kids explored what their family members do at the agency. The day featured hands-on activities that helped participants understand how transportation projects and community services come together.
One of the main attractions was the bridgebuilding challenge, where kids worked through the steps of planning and creating a model bridge to connect them with the engineering, funding, and delivery processes that make real projects possible. They also took part in a clean bus tour and visited the Railroad & History Museum, giving them an up-close look at SBCTA’s work in transit, rail, and local history. These experiences helped bring big concepts to life in a fun and memorable way.
The Public Affairs social media workshop added an extra layer of creativity to the day. Kids learned how SBCTA uses photos, messages, and captions to share updates with the community, then created their own kid-designed posts using real project images. Some of these posts may even appear on SBCTA’s official social media channels, giving young participants a chance to shine.
By the end of the event, the building was buzzing with energy as children proudly carried home their projects, certificates, and new knowledge. The celebration highlighted SBCTA’s commitment to inspiring the next generation of thinkers and creators, reminding everyone of the importance of showing young people how their community is built and cared for.
